The shooting, which police believe was gang-related, was reported at 9:15 a.m. in the 1900 block of South Corning Street near Robertson Boulevard, said LAPD spokesman Richard French.
“The vehicle drove up. Our victim was seated in a vehicle. Shots rang out,” LAPD Capt. Evangelyn Nathan said. “We’re reaching out to the public for information. … We’re looking for individuals who have information concerning the shooting, the suspects, vehicles; anything that you can tell us at all.”
A witness says they saw a man approach the victim, fire a shot, drop something — possibly the weapon — then pick it up, get back in the other vehicle and drive off.
The woman was hit at least once in the upper body, French said. She was driven to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
