Black Friday Shopper pepper sprays crowd to get deal at L.A. Wal-Mart, shootings in California

Only in California will you find people that are willing to use pepper spray and guns to get deals on Black Friday. It should be noted that these crimes happened in the barrios and ghettos we call WalMart.

Black Friday took an ugly turn at a Los Angeles Wal-Mart when a female shopper -desperate to get her hands on discounted electronics-pepper sprayed a crowd to keep them away from the merchandise she wanted.

At least 20 shoppers suffered minor injuries and police are still looking for the woman.

The melee began shortly after 10:20 p.m. Thursday as shoppers prowling for Black Friday deals were let inside the store.

The suspect began shooting the pepper spray when the coverings of items she wanted were removed, according to police.

“Somehow she was trying to use [the pepper spray] to gain an upper hand,” police Lt. Abel Parga said.

Witnesses described the frenzied scene to the Los Angeles Times, describing how shoppers-gone-wild tore down video game displays, trampled merchandise and shoved each other for the deeply-discounted goods.

“People started screaming, pulling and pushing each other, and then the whole area filled up with pepper spray,” Alejandra Seminario, 24, told the newspaper.

After the competitive shopper unleashed the chemicals, Seminario said she began to cough and her face began to itch.

“I guess what triggered it was people started pulling the plastic off the pallets and then shoving and bombarding the display of games. It started with people pushing and screaming because they were getting shoved onto the boxes,” she added.

Chaos also erupted at a Fayetteville, N.C. mall after gunfire erupted. Police are looking for two suspects. Luckily no one was injured.

In addition, a discount-seeking shopper was shot and critically wounded during a robbery outside a Wal-Mart in San Leandro, Calif.

And in Myrtle Beach, S.C., a 55-year-old woman was also shot and injured during a robbery attempt near a Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart came under the microscope on Black Friday in 2008, when a store employee died after a mob of frenzied shoppers smashed through a Long Island store front and trampled the to death.

Despite the mayhem in Los Angeles, the store remained opened and those not affected by the pepper spray continued to hunt for bargains.

“I don’t care,” Nakeasha Contreras, a 20 year old who arrived after the incident, told the Times. “I’m still getting my TV.”

Panhandler shoots four people with pellet gun

Talk about an aggressive panhandler. Charles Peart Quinn, 42, decided to take things to a whole new level when the people he was asking for money from refused him. He shot them with a high power pellet gun.

When police arrived, Quinn shot them too. Talk about an aggressive panhandler. I have to deal with these thugs from time to time at the local gas station.

These guys walk up to me and say “Give me some money!” I laugh at them and say “Listen. You ask a person for money you don’t demand it.” They then ask “Well do you have any money you can spare?” I say “No” and walk away.

A man believed to be a transient shot four people, including two Santa Barbara County sheriff’s deputies, with a high-powered pellet gun, and was later wounded when the officers returned fire, authorities said Sunday.

Charles Peart Quinn, 42, was hospitalized in stable condition, sheriff’s spokesman Drew Sugars said.

One deputy was hit in the face with pellets, another in the forearm, Sugars added. Both were treated and released from Goleta Valley Hospital.

They responded to reports Saturday of an aggressive panhandler in Goleta who was holding a handgun and causing panic among shoppers and diners at Camino Real Marketplace in Goleta.

Andre Rhodes, 18, of Santa Barbara, said the man approached him and three friends to ask for change, then pulled out the gun when they said they had none.

“I didn’t know if it was real or fake, so I turn around and run 50 feet,” Rhodes told the Santa Barbara News-Press. “I turn around and see it’s a BB gun.”

Rhodes’ two friends did not run, and were each shot with pellets in the face. Both suffered minor injuries, Sugars said. Their names were not released.

Deputies found Quinn in a vacant lot holding the gun and ordered him to drop it, but he instead began firing, hitting two of them, Sugars said.

Three deputies returned fire, and hit Quinn multiple times, Sugars said.

The deputies were placed on administrative leave as required by department policy, Sugars said. Their names have not been released.

Authorities have been unable to find an address for Quinn. Deputies reached Sunday did not know if he had hired an attorney.

Joan Baez hurt in fall from treehouse

I know I am going to catch a lot of crap for saying this, but Joan Baez is a moron. A 69 year old has no business climbing 20 feet into a treehouse with no walls so she can sleep with the birds. The only birds she should be sleeping with are the ones in her brain. J.D.

1960s songbird Joan Baez is “resting comfortably” at an undisclosed location after falling 20 feet to the ground from a treehouse — a treehouse she purposely had built without walls because she wanted to sleep among real birds at her Woodside, Calif., home.

The 69-year-old Baez was climbing down from the platform Wednesday when she plunged to the ground. The San Jose Mercury News reports Baez suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from Stanford Hospital.

Nancy Lutzow runs Baez’s production company and tells the Mercury News that Baez was resting Thursday at a secure location.

Baez is known for such songs as “Blowin in the Wind,” ”Forever Young,” ”Diamonds & Rust” and “Sweet Sir Gallahad,” and once had a relationship with rocker Bob Dylan.

Moreno Valley Football coach and family die in accident and fire on freeway

Ryan Villalpando, an assistant football coach at Moreno Valley High, was killed with his wife, Veronica, and their two children when their car became wedged between two trucks and burst into flames.

The accident occurred shortly after noon on the southbound 15 Freeway, south of the Jurupa Street exit, in Ontario, said California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada.

The accident became a six-car pileup involving cars and trucks and also resulted in several minor injuries. A photo taken by a witness, and aired on KCAL-TV Channel 9, shows the Villalpandos’ car fully engulfed in flames and wedged between tractor-trailers front and back.

Authorities have not released the victims’ identities, but they have been reported by a local paper and by KCAL.

“He was my offensive line coach,” Moreno Valley High football coach Ted Wadkins told the Riverside Press-Enterprise. “I met him at Cal State San Bernardino, and he was the first guy I hired. He’s taught the last five years at Moreno Valley.”

Wadkins said Veronica Villalpando taught at an aerospace school at Norton Air Force Base.

KCAL aired an interview with Ryan Villalpando’s father, Edward.

He described his son as “honest, had integrity, tough. He had a bark, but he had a heart, a huge heart. He’s going to be missed.”

He said his son was 32 and was going out to get a pizza with his family when the accident occurred.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
