Standard and Poor’s Cuts U.S. Credit Score

Two years of little action on the American economy by the Obama administration would be to blame for this fiasco. This is what happens when you elect a community organizer President of the United States. JD

In downgrading the United States credit rating for the first time in its history Friday, Standard & Poor’s left little doubt that, for the moment at least, America’s debt crisis is in fact a political crisis.

The impact of the S&P decision to drop US debt from its top AAA rating to AA+ will not be more fully known until Asian markets open on Sunday night. But the move has the potential to raise interest rates on the national debt – a move that could have the knock-on effect of raising interest rates across the US economy, from mortgages to car loans.

Some evidence suggests the impact could be minimal, however, at least in the short term. Markets have guessed at a looming S&P downgrade for weeks and many might have already adjusted somewhat to account for it. Moreover, US bonds have been considered such a safe investment for both American and overseas investors for so long that they have become deeply interwoven into the global economy. Borrowers might not want to risk now demanding higher interest rates from the US because of the shock it would send through markets worldwide.

And perhaps most important, the two other major credit-rating agencies – Moody’s and Fitch’s – have maintained the US’s AAA rating.

But there is no doubt that the S&P downgrade is an alarm bell not only for the US economy, but more particularly for members of Congress. While S&P’s ultimate concern is financial – the prospect that the national debt could expand out of control – the reason for the downgrade was congressional dysfunction.

In other words, S&P suggests that the US has the financial ability to head off a debt crisis, but doubts whether it has the political ability to strike the compromises necessary.

“More broadly, the downgrade reflects our view that the effectiveness, stability, and predictability of American policymaking and political institutions have weakened at a time of ongoing fiscal and economic challenges to a degree more than we envisioned,” an S&P statement reads.

Of itself, the recent debt-ceiling deal was not enough to bring federal deficits under control, yet it exposed dramatically the political fault lines that would prevent further progress.

In recent months, “we have changed our view of the difficulties in bridging the gulf between the political parties over fiscal policy, which makes us pessimistic about the capacity of Congress and the Administration to be able to leverage their agreement this week into a broader fiscal consolidation plan that stabilizes the government’s debt dynamics any time soon,” the statement continued.

S&P appears to taken no sides in the congressional debate. It has given no outward indication of its preference for tax increases, spending cuts, or a mix of both to achieve further deficit savings – or even that it has an opinion on the matter.

What it has done is to warn Washington that it must get to $4 trillion in overall deficit reduction over the next 10 years, according to The Wall Street Journal. The recent debt deal guarantees $2.1 trillion to $2.4 trillion over 10 years.

Mohamed El-Erian, chief executive of bond fund PIMCO, says Congress must treat this as a financial “Sputnik moment.”

“For the sake of their country and the wider global economy, both parties should resist the urge to begin bickering,” he writes in an opinion piece for the Financial Times. “Instead they should seize this potential ‘Sputnik Moment’ – a visible shock to the national psyche that can unify Americans around a common vision and a renewed sense of purpose.”

60,000 illegal immigrant babies born last year in Texas alone

"anchor babies Texas 60,000 anchor babies a year"It goes without saying that proponents of illegal immigration into America will do or say anything to keep the takeover of America going. They want America to be a third world shitbox like the one the countries that they come from.

Don’t believe me? Take a trip into Pomona or Ontario. Pomona used to be like Hollywood east. Big bands used to play the local ballrooms and people would come from miles around to see the place.

Now Mission and Holt Avenues are nothing but used car lots, taco stands, pawn shops and liquor stores. Graffiti is everywhere. Crime is better today but is largely out of control.

Houses in South Pomona resemble housing in Mexico. Bars on every window. Security doors on every door. Homes are painted all of these crazy colors that look like someone vomited in Technicolor.

So when I hear this nonsense about how they come here looking for a better life, I call bullshit. These people refuse to assimilate. They refuse to speak English. They refuse to become part of the fabric that makes up America, that makes us all American.

This is what the proponents of illegal immigration can’t seem to understand. People are pissed off at them because they come to America to live but behave as if they are still in Mexico. JD

As Republican members of Congress press for changes to the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, preventing automatic citizenship for babies born to illegal immigrants, opponents insist the debate is not really about babies.

Instead, they say it is about politics and votes – not fixing the immigration system.

Still, the debate could resonate in Texas, where not only 1.5 million illegal immigrants are estimated to reside but at least 60,000 babies are added to their households annually.

Parkland Memorial Hospital delivers more of those babies than any other hospital in the state. Last year at Parkland, 11,071 babies were born to women who were noncitizens, about 74 percent of total deliveries. Most of these women are believed to be in the country illegally.

State Rep. Rafael Anchía, D-Dallas, accused Republicans of using the births to generate an explosive election issue.

“They’re pulling the pin on the immigration grenade,” he said. “It’s all about the November elections and continuing to use the immigration issue as a wedge to win votes this fall.”

But to Republicans, the emerging national debate is long overdue, considering that millions of immigrants have been living illegally in this country for years.

“They’re violating our law, and we’re giving their children the benefit of U.S. citizenship,” said state Rep. Leo Berman, R-Tyler, whose 2009 bill in the Legislature would have challenged the birthright of immigrant children.

That bill died in committee, although Berman has vowed to file another version next year that would prohibit the state from issuing birth certificates to the children of “illegal aliens.”

“I’ve checked the Congressional Record for when the 14th Amendment was written, and the author was quoted as saying that it did not apply to foreigners,” he said. “There’s no question in my mind about it.”
