Dennis Rodman broke, extremely sick

What would anyone expect from Dennis Rodman?

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman is “extremely sick,” “broke” and is in no position to pay hefty child and spousal support payments, according to court documents.

Rodman is behind in his payments and faces a court hearing Tuesday in Orange. He faces up to 20 days in jail for failure to pay spousal and child support, according to an attorney for his ex-wife.

As of March 1, Rodman, 51, owed $808,935 in back child support for the 9- and 10-year-old children that he had with his third wife, Michelle Rodman, said her attorney, Jack Kayajanian, in court documents.

Rodman also owed $51,441 through March 1 in back spousal support, Kayajanian alleged in court documents.

Michelle Rodman, identified in court papers as a Costa Mesa resident, is also requesting attorneys’ fees, according to the Daily Pilot.

Dennis Rodman’s attorney, Linnea Willis, said in court documents that the former Laker is barely capable of paying for his living expenses, let alone the $5,000 he has for one child from another relationship, and the $4,500 monthly payment for spousal and child support to Michelle Rodman.

The attorneys who have represented him to date have worked pro bono, Willis said.

“Respondent Dennis Rodman is broke and cannot afford any additional fees,” according to court documents filed on his behalf.

He is “extremely sick” and his marketability is diminishing with age and illness, according to court documents.

Rodman, who played on championship Chicago Bulls teams with Michael Jordan before coming to the Lakers, often led the NBA in rebounds. He has a long history with Newport Beach, whose police were called to his Seashore Drive home in West Newport 80 times during the eight years he lived there.

At the time his third wife filed for divorce, he listed his monthly expenses as more than $30,000, according to a 2004 article in the Los Angeles Times. Michelle Rodman listed her monthly expenses as $17,000.

Lakers Pau Gasol gives $1000 a point to Haiti relief

Pau Gasol Lakers NEW YORK — Kobe Bryant marked his return to Madison Square Garden by scoring 27 points to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 115-105 win over the New York Knicks.

Bryant put up big numbers in the fourth quarter, scoring 13 points but it was far short of his last visit to the Garden when he scored an arena-record 61 points.

Bryant said he’s trying not to think about individual records at this point in the National Basketball Association season.

“I don’t think the way that we’re playing, we’re ready for that type of situation,” he said. “Guys have got to get going. Other players have got to find the rhythm because I need them on this trip.”

Pau Gasol added 20 points which translated into 20,000 dollars for the Haiti earthquake victims. Gasol said earlier he would contribute 1,000 dollars for each point he scored Friday.

“We had to fight through fatigue,” Gasol said. “At the beginning we were allowing too many layups.

“We played much better in the second half. Once we started playing good defence in the fourth quarter it was a lot better.”

Bryant came in averaging 30.5 points in his previous 11 games in New York.

He has five 40-point games in New York but was never close to that in this one, scoring only 14 points on 14 shots through three quarters .

He finished only eight of 24 from the field on the fourth anniversary of his 81-point game.

Andrew Bynum finished with 19 points for Los Angeles, who lost to LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday.

The Lakers are just two games into an eight-game road swing.

“We take it one game at a time,” said Lakers Ron Artest. “We played decent, we didn’t play great.”

David Lee scored a season-high 31 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, Wilson Chandler added 28 points and Danilo Gallinari had 20 for the losing team.

Lakers Artest fell down stairs at home

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Lakers forward Ron Artest has injuries to his head and left elbow after falling at his home.

Artest didn’t travel with the Lakers to Saturday’s game at Sacramento after tripping over a box and falling down a flight of stairs at his home on Christmas night, the team said in a news release.

He was treated at UCLA Medical Center, undergoing a CT scan and receiving stitches in the back of his head and his elbow. He’s expected to be examined by a neurologist later Saturday, when the Lakers will be able to estimate when Artest can rejoin the team.

Artest scored 13 points and fouled out while guarding LeBron James in the Lakers’ 102-87 loss to Cleveland earlier Friday. Artest is averaging 12.3 points and 4.8 rebounds in his first season with Los Angeles after signing as a free agent.

Lakers coach Phil Jackson allowed his players to stay home with their families on Christmas night, apparently getting permission from the NBA to fly to Sacramento on Saturday morning.

Lamar Odom is likely to take Artest’s spot in the starting lineup against the Kings. Los Angeles began a stretch with four games in five days on Christmas, culminating in a home game against Golden State on Tuesday.
