Immigration reform will add millions of people to ObamaCare

Here is the problem with American politics. Politicians don’t care about America or Americans. They only care about being re-elected. Plain and simple.

This is why they are constantly pandering to the poor. The irony here is they have manufactured an ever expanding base of poor people by passing laws that cost us all more money in the form of taxes.

Comprehensive immigration reform could make millions of people suddenly eligible for assistance under President Obama’s healthcare law, assuming a final deal paves the way for undocumented immigrants to receive papers.

Illegal aliens are now prohibited from purchasing coverage through the Affordable Care Act’s insurance exchanges, which will launch next year.

They are also ineligible for Medicaid under most circumstances, making the law’s expansion of the program fruitless for people without documents.

Even young illegal immigrants with “deferred action” status, known as “DREAMers,” cannot access the law’s benefits.

But the picture could change completely if Hispanic lawmakers get their wish — an overhaul of U.S. immigration policy that includes a path to legalization.

“We have to figure out a way in which [undocumented immigrants] incorporate themselves into the larger workforce, and into our society in general, and not be a burden,” said Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.), a leader in the immigration debate.

“Do we want them to go to the exchanges? Absolutely we do — if and when they don’t have healthcare through their employer,” he said.

Immigration is expected to be a major issue for President Obama’s second term, and advocates like Gutierrez are pushing hard to make reform a reality.

Recent polls show the public is increasingly on board. According to a CNN/ORC poll from Jan. 21, 53 percent want a path to legalization for illegal immigrants — a major shift from 2011, when most wanted Washington focused on deportations.

The consequences for Obama’s signature healthcare law, as well as healthcare providers, could be huge.

Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.), a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, said the legalization of undocumented people would benefit hospitals now burdened by uncompensated care.

If nothing changes, undocumented immigrants will be a major share of the uninsured, second only to those who are eligible but do not apply for coverage under the healthcare law in 2014, according to the Urban Institute.

Obama Creates Jobs For Illegal Aliens

Hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants who came to the United States as children will be able to obtain work permits and be safe from deportation under a new policy announced on Friday by the Obama administration.

His executive order, which Latinos and other immigrants have been pleading for since Congress turned aside an effort to pass similar legislation, cast into sharp relief the longstanding political differences on immigration, one of the most divisive and delicate issues being debated as the November elections approach.

Republicans were quick to criticize Mr. Obama, saying that he was overstepping his powers in an end run around Congress. But he said he acted only “in the absence of any immigration action from Congress to fix our broken immigration system.”

The policy, effective immediately, will apply to people who are currently no more than 30 years old, who arrived in the country before they turned 16 and have lived in the United States for five years. They must also have no criminal record, and have earned a high school diploma, be in school or have served in the military.

These qualifications resemble in some ways those of the so-called Dream Act, a measure blocked by Congress in 2010 that was geared to establish a path toward citizenship for certain young illegal immigrants. The administration’s action on Friday, which stops deportations but does not offer citizenship or even permanent legal status, is being undertaken by executive order and does not require legislation.

What the younger immigrants will obtain, officials said, is the ability to apply for a two-year “deferred action” that effectively removes the threat of deportation for up to two years, with repeated extensions. “This is not immunity, it is not amnesty,” said Janet Napolitano, the homeland security secretary. “It is an exercise of discretion.”

Talk about blatant pandering for votes. Here we are in a in the middle of year four of a recession, three of those years were Obama years, and there are not enough jobs for Americans. So what does Obama do? Panders to Hispanics by claiming that the Government will no longer deport illegal aliens. Ugh. If Obama is elected to a second term we are doomed. JD

People whose deferrals are approved will then be able to apply for work permits, which will be dealt with case by case, officials said. They estimated that the new policy would cover about 800,000 people.

One of them, Maria Praeli, a 19-year-old high school senior, said she teared up when she found out about the change after completing her final exam of the year.

“I can finally drive and not have to worry about the police,” she said. “I can finally have a work permit and not just to make money but to pursue a career.” She wants to become a social worker.

The decision highlighted the importance of Latino voters to Mr. Obama’s re-election campaign. Many of the states in which the election will be decided — Florida, Colorado, Virginia and Nevada among them — have large and growing Hispanic populations.

Mr. Obama’s action falls short of what some advocates have been seeking from an overhaul of the immigration system, and some Hispanic leaders have expressed disappointment that he has not done more.

Most new Texas jobs went to illegal immigrants

I thought that perhaps this article would wake a few people up here in the states. I have been saying for years now that you cannot go to any fast food joint and understand the employees that are taking your order. Go figure. Now it appears that there is data that backs up my assertion that immigrants are taking jobs away from Americans.

With both jobs and immigration likely topics of sharp debate at tonight’s Republican debate here in Florida, a new report suggests that newly-arrived immigrants have filled a majority of new jobs created in Texas, home to Republican frontrunner Gov. Rick Perry.

“Of jobs created in Texas since 2007, 81 percent were taken by newly arrived immigrant workers (legal and illegal),” says the report from the Center for Immigration Studies, a group that advocates reduced levels of both legal and illegal immigration. The report estimates that about 40 percent of the new jobs were taken by illegal immigrants, while 40 percent were taken by legal immigrants. The vast majority of both groups, legal and illegal, were not American citizens.

Native-born Americans filled just 20 percent of the new jobs in Texas, the report says, even though “the native born accounted for 69 percent of the growth in Texas’ working-age population.” “Thus, even though natives made up most of the growth in potential workers, most of the job growth went to immigrants,” the report concludes.

The report is based on analysis of the Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey.

The study notes that 56 percent of newly-arrived immigrants in Texas since 2007 have had a high-school degree or less. But it also notes that “More than one out three…of newly arrived immigrants who took a job had at least some college.” It would be a mistake, the report concludes, “to assume that immigrants are only competing for jobs at the bottom end of the labor market.”

On the issue of immigration, Gov. Perry has been the target of criticism from some rivals because he opposes building a border fence and opposes E-Verify, while he supports in-state tuition for illegal immigrants as well as a guest-worker program. Rival Mitt Romney has made clear that he disagrees with Perry on each of those positions, and it’s likely that the issue will arise again in the Orlando debate.

In a press release accompanying the study, the Center for Immigration Studies makes a clear effort to cast doubt on Perry’s record. The relevant portion of that release:

As Republicans go through the process of selecting their party’s nominee, job growth in Texas during the current economic downturn has been the subject of much discussion. GOP frontrunner Perry has argued that he has a proven record of job creation in his state, even during the current economic downturn. It is true that Texas is one of the only states where the number of people working has increased during the recession. What has not been acknowledged is that immigrants have been the primary beneficiaries of this job growth, not native-born Americans. About 40 percent job growth went to newly arrived illegal immigrants and another 40 percent to new legal immigrants.

Some may argue that it was the arrival of immigrants in the state that stimulated what job growth there was for natives. But, if immigration stimulates job growth for natives, the numbers in Texas would look very different. The unemployment rate and the employment rate (share holding job) of natives in Texas show a dramatic deterioration during the recession that is similar to the rest of the country. Among the native-born, Texas ranks 22nd in terms of unemployment and 29th in terms of its employment rate. Outside of Texas many of the top immigrant-receiving states have the worst economies. Unemployment in the 10-top immigrant-receiving states in 2011 averaged 8.7 percent, compared to 7.2 percent on average in the 10 states where the fewest immigrants arrived since 2007. These figures do not settle the longstanding debate over the economics of immigration. What they do show is that high immigration is not necessarily associated with positive labor market outcomes for the! native-born.

Some may still feel that less-educated immigrants who work at the bottom of the labor market do not really compete with natives. It is true that 56.8 percent of newly arrived immigrants had no more than a high school education. However, there are more than 3 million native-born workers in Texas who have no more than a high school education. Between 2007 and 2011 the number of native-born Texans with a high school degree or less not working increased by 259,000 and their unemployment rates nearly doubled. It would be very difficult to find evidence that less-educated workers were in short supply in the state.

It must also be remembered that many immigrants are more educated. In fact, 43.2 percent (97,000) of newly arrived immigrants who took a job in Texas had at least some college. Thus it would a mistake to assume that immigrants are only competing for jobs at the bottom end of the labor market.

Obama’s Support of Amnesty For Illegal Immigrants A Slap In The Face To American Workers

There is a common misconception when it comes to the American blue collar worker. That is, we won’t do jobs that are labor intensive.

I have heard the argument that illegal aliens are here doing the work that Americans won’t do. However, I have never heard any of the proponents of illegal immigration finish the sentence.

The sentence should should read “Illegal immigrants are here doing the work Americans won’t do for five dollars an hour.”

Because that the case. Trust me when I say this. I have seen entire industries ruined by illegal immigration.

The construction industry is a fine example. I used to be able to make a living wage pulling wire and swinging a hammer. Today there are people doing electrical work for ten dollars an hour.

The only people that benefit from illegal immigration are American corporations that hire these people and pay them peanuts to do work that a more qualified American worker would be paid a living wage for.

If you think for one minute that there are not people in America today that would not give up their search for a cushy office job and get a job doing manual labor to make ends meet, you are as stupid as our fearless leader.

Unemployment is on the rise again my friends. People are lining up looking for jobs.

How many Americans could be working today if there were not thirty million illegal aliens here taking those jobs?

If you have teenagers, forget about it. Here in California, virtually every entry level position is filled by illegal aliens or the children of illegal aliens.

I go to a fast food joint to order food and the person working the drive up window barely speaks English and is nearly impossible to understand.

My sixteen year old has applied at every fast food place in town. They won’t hire her.

You know why? Because all of them employ three or four legal workers and ten illegals that they pay under the table.

Don’t believe me? Read this WSJ article about Chipotle Grill. After Chipotle was exposed as a major employer of illegal aliens, their stock went up! Through the roof as a matter of fact.

Why? Because they make a huge profit by keeping labor costs down. Wall Street understands this. Investors understand this. How does this help me as an American worker and consumer?

It doesn’t help me at all. Have you been to Chipotle Grill lately? Its some of the most expensive fast food out there and almost all of their employees barely speak a lick of English.

So lets review. Our kids can’t find work. Adults can’t find work. Unemployment is on the rise, yet President Obama wants to grant Amnesty to the very scofflaws that are here taking jobs from Americans.

Go figure. JD

Sheriff Joe Arpaio lets public rate mugshots online

He is known for dressing inmates in pink underwear and feeding them green baloney.

And now America’s toughest Sheriff has come up with a new initiative to give the public a voice in law enforcement – an online Mugshot of the Day competition.

Arizona-based Joe Arpaio, known for his uncompromising stance on crime, is letting the public browse through the mugshots of those arrested each day and then vote for their favourite.

The Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff says he hopes the increased Web traffic will highlight the work of his employees.
He also says more crimes may be uncovered if the public can view the photos.

Tough: Sheriff Arpaio, renowned as America’s toughest Sheriff, is notorious for his controversial program

The top picks so far aren’t unexpected: They’re the most dishevelled, unusual looking people among those booked into an Arizona jail.

And while the new scheme may be controversial, it has the overwhelming backing of those using the site, with 4102 out of the 4964 people who have voted so far agreeing with Arpaio.

Visitors to the Sheriff’s page mcso.org are greeted with the day’s current most popular shot.

The top seven most popular pictures are displayed first.
Users can also sort those arrested by crime, picking via a menu ranging from sexual offences to assault.

Last month Arpaio was criticised for raiding a suspected cock fighting farm with a SWAT team, a bomb robot, two armoured vehicles, and action movie star Steven Segal.

Jesus Llovera, 42, was arrested for cockfighting after the operation involving Steven Seagal, 58, who drove a tank onto the property as he shot a reality television show.

The Sheriff also came under fire in 2008 for his controversial stance on illegal immigrants.

He was accused of dispatching teams of sheriff’s deputies into Hispanic communities where they stopped and arrested anyone who could not prove he or she was a legal U.S. resident.

The tactic drew heavy criticism from Hispanic activists, local lawmakers and the Phoenix mayor, who called the crackdown on immigrants a clear case of racial profiling in which only people who looked Hispanic were targeted.

And this month an examination of Maricopa County’s finances found that the sheriff’s office, inappropriately spent $99 million from two jail funds over the last eight years to pay for other law enforcement operations – including immigration patrols.

The $99 million figure is an update to an estimate made in September by budget officials who said the sheriff’s office was believed to have used $60 million and $80 million over four or five years from a jail tax on other purposes.

Since then, officials said they discovered that the sheriff’s office had inappropriately spent money from a second jail.

Joe Arpaio makes jail a terrible experience for inmates in Arizona.

The findings by county budget officials discussed at a meeting Wednesday were sent to federal prosecutors who were already investigating Arpaio on abuse of power allegations.

The mugshot initiative is just one of a long list of unorthodox methods employed by the notorious Sheriff.

According to the Maricopa County website, Arpaio served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1953 before working as a policeman in Washington, D.C. and Las Vegas.

He rose to worldwide fame In August 1993, when he started the nation’s largest Tent City for convicted inmates.

Nearly two thousand convicted men and women now serve their sentences in the temporary canvas city, sweltering in the unrelenting heat.

During the summer of 2003, when outside temperatures exceeded 43 °C, Arpaio famously said to complaining inmates, ‘It’s 120 degrees in Iraq and the soldiers are living in tents, have to wear full body armor, and they didn’t commit any crimes, so shut your mouths.’

He is also known for bringing back chain gangs to carry out road repairs, painting public buildings and even working as part time undertakers burying the county’s dead.

His tough line on stealing led to perhaps his most memorable stunt, making inmates in the county’s prison system wear pink underwear.

He has also banned smoking, coffee, movies, pornographic magazines, and unrestricted TV in all jails.
