Reid Supporters give beat down to Angle supporters at forum

Supporters of U.S. Sen. Harry Reid and his GOP challenger Sharron Angle brawled at the end of a Senate race forum at a local Christian school.

A half-dozen bystanders tried to separate the combatants, one male Angle backer and two female Reid supporters, before security guards intervened.

“I didn’t expect anything like this, not in a million years,” said the Rev. Robin Joyce, one of the organizers of the event at Faith Lutheran Junior/Senior High School in Summerlin. “Our whole aim was to have an educational forum to hear from the candidates about their economic positions.”

Instead, tempers flared in the high-stakes race between the Democratic incumbent and the Tea Party upstart three weeks before early voting starts Oct. 16.

“He punched me twice, so I punched him back twice,” Kay Mehta said as she nursed a red, tearing eye and waited for police to arrive. “I was just defending myself.”

No arrests were made. Police interviewed those involved for a report on the incident. The names of all of the participants were not released.

At the start of the 7 p.m. forum, the audience was asked not to applaud or to shout out as Reid answered questions in a prerecorded videotape because he is in Washington, D.C. Angle answered a moderator’s questions live from the stage.

But partisan members of the audience became boisterous as the hourlong forum progressed. As Angle was giving her closing statement, a stream of Reid supporters among the 800-member audience began to leave the auditorium, which has close rows of theater-style seating.

A Reid backer, Kelly Tanaka, said one male Angle supporter refused to let her pass in front of him.

She alleged he tried to push her over the seats in front of him when she tried to pass. That is when the Reid and Angle partisans began to tussle and then exchange blows.

Tanaka accused the Angle supporter of hitting her. Mehta said she then got involved. Some bystanders said one of the women shoved the man back into his seat when he tried to get up.

The fight escalated after Angle finished speaking and blew a kiss to supporters in the audience. She left quickly to catch a flight to Reno as the scuffle disrupted the auditorium.

“I was just trying to get him off her,” said Mehta, a Reid supporter. “We were just trying to get by.”

The auditorium was packed mostly with conservative Republican Angle supporters who were drawn to the event sponsored by the Faith Lutheran Business Advisory Council, the Christian Businessmen’s Network, Businesswomen for Christ and Media Fellowship International.

Reid backers appeared to account for up to one-fifth of the audience judging by reactions from the crowd, including scattered boos and jeers when Angle was speaking.

Some of Reid’s videotaped answers attracted rude noises and open scoffing from the Angle crowd.

The loudest protests came when Reid made his closing statement and made the case, using a baseball analogy, about why voters should give him a fifth term.

“Why would you pull somebody out of the game that’s done so much for the state of Nevada?” Reid asked.

His remark elicited scattered boos and scoffing. One man said derisively, “Ha, ha, ha.”

In Angle’s closing remarks, she said voters should choose her because she will do what she says, including voting against tax hikes as she did as a Reno assemblywoman. She said she voted against taxes and fees more than 100 times, while Reid has voted for them more than 300 times.

“They can trust me,” Angle said of voters. “I kept my promises, and I will keep my promises as your U.S. senator.”

A man interrupted, calling out, “You lie!” Angle ignored him.

Reid and Angle largely kept to their standard campaign talking points during the forum.

The incumbent touted his record of pushing for more renewable energy projects to create jobs in Nevada, and he defended the Democrats’ stimulus spending.

Pelosi’s Office in the Loop on Massa Months Ago, Sexual Allegations Persist

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s aides knew about concerns over ex-Rep. Eric Massa’s behavior as far back as October, Fox News has learned, raising the possibility that the scandal could dog Democratic leaders even though Massa is now out of office.

On top of that, a slew of outrageous reports and first-hand accounts of Massa’s sexual conduct dating back to his Navy days have emerged since his resignation Monday.

Though Massa pledged Tuesday on Fox News to “go away,” stories about him “groping” everyone from his Navy buddies to his staff members ensure the New York Democrat’s exploits will become the stuff of lore, and countless hours of cable talk, while his fellow party members are trying to concentrate on health care.

Pelosi, in an interview on PBS’ “The Charlie Rose Show” Wednesday, shook her head at the situation, saying “poor baby, poor baby” in response to Massa’s wavering allegation that he was forced out so health care reform could pass.

“This is a very sick person. He has been diagnosed with cancer — perhaps his judgment is impaired because of of his — the ethical issues that have as arisen, and he is no longer in the Congress,” Pelosi said.

Despite a report that the House ethics committee is ending its investigation into Massa, the panel has not yet formally announced the inquiry is over and a senior source told Fox News the probe remains open for the time being.

Though Massa resigned, the committee potentially could continue poking around if there are suspicions that Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer could have handled the situation better — the panel similarly investigated GOP leaders in the wake of the scandal over ex-Rep. Mark Foley’s lurid text messages to male pages.

Republicans are still weighing whether to bring up a measure calling on the ethics committee to keep its inquiry going. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., said Thursday that the matter deserves to be investigated further.

Fox News has learned that Pelosi’s aides learned last October that Massa was living with male staffers and asked Massa’s office to change that. According to The Wall Street Journal, Massa’s former chief of staff also told Pelosi’s staff that Massa’s language and conduct made some aides uncomfortable.

Pelosi’s aides learned about allegations of groping around the same time Hoyer and his staff learned in early February, sources say. Hoyer’s office claims it urged Massa’s office to refer complaints to the ethics committee.

Pelosi has said she did not personally learn about the allegations of misconduct until March 3.

But the allegations and bizarre anecdotes certainly didn’t end with the off-color remark — “What I really ought to be doing is fracking you” — which Massa admitted to making to a staffer at a wedding reception on New Year’s Eve. He originally described that comment as the lone offending incident that was exploited by his enemies to bring him down — but aides apparently complained about others and several of Massa’s former Navy shipmates have gone on record detailing a pattern of inappropriate behavior.

One shipmate told The Atlantic that Massa was known for giving “Massa Massages” to the other men on board.

The shipmate also said Massa once climbed up to his roommate’s top bunk to attempt to execute a sexual maneuver known as snorkeling — for more information go to UrbanDictionary.com.

“He wakes up to Massa undoing his pants trying to snorkel him,” the shipmate told The Atlantic.

On Fox News, Massa also said that he groped a male aide, but described it as playful and not sexual.

“Not only did I grope him, I tickled him until he couldn’t breathe and then four guys jumped on top of me,” he said. “It was my 50th birthday. It was ‘kill the old guy.’ You can take anything out of context,” Massa said.

The play was too much for his Chief of Staff Joe Racalto, who apparently was present among the bachelors who worked for and lived with Massa at a Washington, D.C., pad, where the guys participated in the rough play.

“My chief of staff had a conniption and said: ‘You can’t live there; It’s not congressional,’” Massa said.

Racalto is the one who reportedly went to Pelosi’s staff.

“It’ll Snow in DC Until Al Gore Cries “Uncle”

Here is what we here at the BrokenCountry have been waiting for. The media and the scientists to blame the snow storms around the world on global warming. These people think we are all idiots. Here is a passage from the following article,

Do these people think we are fools? This is just the normal cycle of the weather. Weathermen cannot accurately predict what is going to happen tomorrow, yet they are trying to convince us that they know what is going to happen one hundred years from now. I believe they are the fools. Ed.

Poor Al Gore. The second major blizzard to hit Washington, D.C. is fueling the fire for conservatives who say that the nonstop snow pokes holes in evidence backing global warming.

Amid reports that the area was facing another 10 to 20 inches of snow, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) took the Twitter-sphere Tuesday to take a jab at Gore, who is one of the foremost proponents of the government action to counter global warming, The Hill reported.

He’s not the only conservative jumping on the global warming is bunk bandwagon. During a speech Monday at the Sierra-Cascade Logging Conference in Redding, Calif., former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin lampooned studies supporting global warming as a “bunch of snake oil science,” the AP reported.

After all, it stands to reason that if the world is getting warmer — and the past decade was the hottest on record — major snowstorms should become a thing of the past, like Palm Pilots and majority rule in the Senate, Time magazine notes. But:

Because it turns out that hotter air — i.e., global warming — can hold more moisture, thus creating MORE snow, not less. As pointed out by meteorologist Jeff Masters at Weather Underground:

Record-breaking snowstorms are not an indication that global warming is not occurring. In fact, we can expect there may be more heavy snowstorms in regions where it is cold enough to snow, due to the extra moisture global warming has added to the atmosphere–an extra 4% since 1970.

Of course, one or two snowstorms does not global warming make. As Time notes, “weather is what will happen next weekend; climate is what will happen over the next decades and centuries.”

In the meantime, let the global warming snowballs fly.
