FART BARF . . . WTF?

So I work in Commerce, California for a rather large company. Each day as I traverse the highways and byways of the Greater Los Angeles area, I see some pretty wacky stuff that I thought I would share with the rest of the world.

This particular image can be seen in the Google Maps at 5790 Washington Blvd, Commerce CA. or at this link.

The building is some sort of Orthopedic equipment service, and these the words “FART BARF” has been stenciled on the side of the building for the full five years that I have worked in the area.

The funny thing is that no matter how many times I see it, I still kind of chuckle every time. Just one of the interesting sights here in Los Angeles. JD

UPDATE: So I did a bit of research and found out that here in Los Angeles there is a local analogue synthesizer band called FART BARF. I provided a link above should anyone be interested in seeing their site. Perhaps they painted the words “FART BARF” up on that building.

Mexico hit by 7.2 earthquake, felt in Los Angeles

Sorry for not posting yesterday. I worked a double shift yesterday so that some of the people with small children could have the day off and spend the time with their families on Easter.

While at work we had a bit of excitement when the earthquake hit. I work in Commerce Ca. which is about 120 miles from Mexicali. It was a long rolling earthquake, and it gave us a good shake.

There was no damage but the pair pigeons that live in the shop disappeared and did not return as of 10 o’clock last night.

Two people died and around 100 were injured when a strong 7.2 magnitude quake rocked the Mexico-California border area on Sunday afternoon, Baja California Gov. Jose Osuna told the Televisa television network. One person was crushed in a collapsed house, the other hit by a falling wall.

The tremor, felt as far north as Los Angeles, cracked main roads, toppled electricity posts and knocked down an empty multistorey car park under construction in Mexicali, a prosperous city and busy border crossing.

Hundreds of people camped out overnight as smaller tremors shook buildings with cracked floors, walls and broken windows.

“I wasn’t going to put my family at risk. Lots of homes have cracks,” said Fermin Garcia, a teacher who slept with her family in a tent pitched between two shopping centers.

Broken gas pipes sparked a number of fires on Sunday, and darkened streets in Mexicali triggered car accidents, but no major buildings appeared to have collapsed.

Power was slowly being reestablished on Monday, but many state-run hospitals lacked power and patients were laid out on beds in parking lots due to worries over cracked walls.

A highway connecting Mexicali with the nearby border city of Tijuana on the Pacific coast was ruptured by a crack at least a meter (3 feet) deep, according to a Reuters witness.

A liquefied natural gas import terminal operated by Sempra Energy south of Tijuana was not damaged however, a company spokeswoman said.

Ryan Villalpando and Family Killed in Freeway Accident, Moreno Valley High Football Coach

There is more to this story that I have not seen mentioned in the news reports about this horrible tragedy. There is a huge problem on the 15 Freeway from the 210 Pasadena Freeway, down through the 60 Los Angeles Freeway.

Cal-Trans, the freeway maintenance and construction agency run by the state of California, has been running a number of projects on the 15 freeway for more than a year now. There have been a lot of accidents because of their construction.

I was in a small accident a couple of weeks ago because of the construction, when a Cal-Trans dump truck came off of the center divider and went across all four traffic lanes causing me to swerve to avoid the debris that was falling off of the back of his truck. I ran over a traffic cone and a piece of concrete form lumber. This flattened two of my tires and ruined the front bumper of the car.

The traffic lanes change almost daily, being moved from one side of the freeway to the other, and you never know what to expect one day to the next. I work in Commerce CA. and driving down the 15 to get to the 60 is a crap shoot. One day things will be fine, the next day there are accidents everywhere.

I wonder what was going on that caused this horrible accident that took the lives of an entire family. The Jurupa (pronounced Ha-roo-pa) exit is just north of the 60 westbound transition road and right in the middle of their construction zone and right where my little accident occurred.

Driving this stretch of freeway is incredibly dangerous because of the way Cal-Trans has been managing construction on both sides of the freeway. Just yesterday on my way to work in the same area of this accident I was almost involved in an accident.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the Villalpando Family in this sad time. JD
