Cucamonga Valley Water raising rates

This is the kind of thing that has always fascinated me. Utilities are businesses that make huge profits. Yet companies like Edison, The Gas Company and water companies raise their rates to pay for investments in their infrastructure.

This is the same infrastructure which these utilities use to make their profits with, yet the end users are the ones that pay for their investment.

Its like asking your neighbors to pay for a pool and a room addition on your home to raise the property value. I just don’t get it. How much more can we possibly take?

It has become so incredibly expensive to live in California that eventually all that will be left is welfare recipients and government employees that are nothing more than welfare recipients anyway. JD

Times Square Evacuated By Car Bomb

NEW YORK — Police found a suspected car bomb in a smoking sport utility vehicle Saturday evening in Times Square, then cleared the streets of thousands of tourists milling through the landmark district so they could dismantle the device.

A white robotic police arm broke windows of the black Nissan Pathfinder to remove any explosive materials while heavily armed police and emergency vehicles shut down the city’s busiest streets, teeming with taxis and theatergoers on one of the first summer-like days of the year.

Investigators removed bomb-making materials, including propane tanks, explosive powders and a crude timing device, top police spokesman Paul Browne said.

“There were explosive elements, including powder, gasoline, propane and some kind of electrical wires attached to a clock,” Browne said early Sunday. “No motive has been identified.”

An officer noticed smoke coming from the SUV around 6:30 p.m. and cleared the streets at the so-called “Crossroads of the World.” The area remained closed more than seven hours later.

Police are investigating a report that someone was seen running from the vehicle at some point and are reviewing security videotapes, Browne said. The Nissan Pathfinder’s license plates do not match the car’s registration, he said.

Police evacuated several residential and commercial buildings and cleared the streets of people. Police were deployed around the area with heavy weapons on empty streets in the heart of busy midtown Manhattan.

Some tourists reported hearing a small explosion hours after the car was first located.

Shelly Carlisle, of Portland, Ore., said police crowded into her Broadway theater after the curtain closed on “Next to Normal,” a show on the same block where the SUV was found.

“At the end of the show, the police came in. We were told we had to leave,” Carlisle said. “They said there was a bomb scare.”

The car was parked on 45th Street, and the block was closed between Seventh and Eighth avenues as a precaution, police said. Times Square lies about four traffic-choked miles north of where terrorists bombed the World Trade Center in 1993, then laid waste to it on Sept. 11, 2001.

The block that was closed is one of the prime blocks for Broadway shows, with seven theaters housing such big shows as “Billy Elliot” and “Lend Me a Tenor.”

The curtain at “God of Carnage” and “Red” opened a half-hour later than usual, but the shows were not canceled, said spokesman Adrian Bryan-Brown.

Katy Neubauer, 46, and Becca Saunders, 39, of Milwaukee, were shopping for souvenirs two blocks south of the SUV when they saw panicked crowds.

“It was a mass of people running away from the scene,” Neubauer said.

Said Saunders: “There were too many people, too many cops. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Mayor Michael Bloomberg left early from the White House correspondent’s dinner Saturday night. A news conference was planned in New York for early Sunday.

Obama confuses anti-government with anti-Obama

Obama takes direct aim at anti-government rhetoric

Dear President Obama,

Last time I checked, the Constitution gave ALL Americans the right to protest and openly disagree with their government regardless of the color of the sitting president.

I have not met or heard anyone of my political friends, anyone in the media or talk radio say a word about being “anti-government.” Understanding Mr. Obama, that your latest remarks, misguided as they may be, were directed at the big heads on talk radio, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and the like.

Virtually all of the people on talk radio and your strongest opponents in the media understand that a country without governance is no longer a country.

After living for my 48 years and hearing the Hollywood elite wish death on any republican that dares to call themselves a republican, after hearing these same people insist that they would leave America if Bush won a second term, one would think that you of all people Mr. Obama would understand that as president, you and your policy will be subject to criticism.

In fact, I cannot ever remember having an political argument with a democrat that didn’t end with the democrat making false accusations and calling names. Its as if the left have no legitimate ideas or principles on which to argue, so they fall back on accusations and rhetoric of their own. This usually involves name calling.

A good example Mr. Obama, would be the current situation in Arizona with regard to illegal immigration. You yourself Mr. President insinuated that the fine people of the state of Arizona were racists for wanting to take a stand against illegal immigration.

Mr. President, understanding the rules of the game that you and your administration play by, you can all say and do whatever you want. You Mr. Obama can make any accusation, and attack all that oppose you and your agenda.

But the opposition can say nothing to rebut your words, lest they be attacked as racists, bigots, anti-government, etc.

President Obama, every time anyone opposes you and your administration, you go on the offensive and attack anyone that simply disagrees with your point of view. Then your friends in the media do all they can to marginalize the opposition and echo your position.

Mr. Obama, perhaps now would be a good time to get back to the business of running the country. At some point in your life you need to stop worrying about your agenda and start worrying about what the people, and I mean ALL of the people in America want and need from their government. JD

Immigrants rights advocates compare opposition to Nazi’s

Immigrants rights advocates compare opposition to Nazis

Here we go again. Today we will get to watch as illegal immigrants parade around complaining about what they deserves for breaking our laws while waving Mexican flags. Talk about adding insult to injury.

There is one question that I would like to ask. Why don’t these same people that are in America trying to affect change in this country and our immigration policy, direct that same energy to affecting change in Mexican policies against its own people and the corruption therein? Just kind of curious. JD

Trenton Man Attacks Neighbor With Bow & Arrow

Trenton Police have arrested a man who attacked his neighbor with a bow and arrow Thursday evening.

Just after 11 p.m., police received a report that a man, identified as Anthony Giovannini, 35, was struck with what he believed was a rock as he was walking inside of his house on the 400 block of Franklin Street.

Giovannini told police that after being struck, he looked and observed his neighbor, later identified as Robert Wood, 41, entering his home. The victim then noticed an arrow protruding from his back and yelled for his girlfriend to call police and an ambulance arrived immediately.

Giovannini was treated at the Capital Health Regional Medical Center for a four inch puncture wound to the back.

An investigation revealed that there had been an ongoing problem between Wood and Giovannini over parking and several criminal mischief incidents were previously reported to police.

Wood was apprehended by police and two bows were confiscated from his home. Wood was charged with aggravated assault and a weapons offense.
