Fontana Teacher Clark Mahoney accused of inappropriately touching students

Fontana Teacher Date Elementary Clark MahoneyFONTANA – Two elementary students this week accused a teacher of inappropriately touching them on school grounds.

Clark Mahoney, 43, of Loma Linda was arrested Monday on suspicion of lewd acts with a child, according to a Fontana police news release.

Mahoney, a fourth grade teacher, was booked at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. He is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Mahoney is scheduled to appear for arraignment today in Fontana Superior Courthouse.

The two students – who are 9- and 10-years-old – said Mahoney inappropriately touched them Monday at Date Elementary School, 9011 Oleander Ave., Fontana police Sgt. Jeff Decker said.

Investigators are looking at a potential third victim.

A school employee reported the allegations to Principal Jay Caballero, who immediately contacted the Fontana Unified School District administration, according to a district news release.

“This happened (Monday), was reported (Monday) and he was arrested (Monday),” Decker said.

Mahoney has worked at the school for about a decade, Decker said.

“There is a lot of history to go through and a lot of students to contact,” he said.

Investigators are looking to see if there are additional victims.

Parents and guardians of the alleged victims have been informed of the accusations, officials said.

    Clark was found guilty of possession of child porn. Very disappointing. He is being held at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, awaiting sentencing on 11/4/. I have to admit that it's pretty outrageous that an elementary school teacher would have child porn on his computer. Sadly, it lends a certain credibility to the original charges.

    The jury trial on the three remaining charges, which had been scheduled for 9/19, was "vacated". I guess that means to permanently cancel? So, is Clark now exonerated from all charges and his record cleared, or what?

    According to the court website, the DA will retry him on the three charges, two of which have been reduced to misdemeanors. The child porn charge is still a felony, though. Trial has been set for 9/19. He is free on his own recognizance.

    For sure, he's been acquitted by a jury on the two 288(A) charges (lewd conduct with a child). The jury was hung on the three other lesser counts, and the DA can either retry on those charges or drop them.

    I wouldn't think there's anything unusual about a teacher hanging-out with his students at school, in the proper venue. Some teachers are popular with girls and others with boys.

    This may not be as good news as I thought. I did some more reading on the internet. There's no way to delete  post here. 

    The judge ordered a "mistrial" and a "dispo/reset" hearing. Does that mean Clark can be charged again with the same 2 288(A) counts? Wouldn't that be double jeopardy? I clearly don't know what I'm talking about but I'm trying to understand the legal language on the court website.

    Clak is INNOCENT on two main charges of lewd and lascivous conduct with a child (PC288). Jury deadlocked on three lesser charges. Bail exonerated. New hearing on the 19th to decide disposition.

    Thank the Lord and defense attorney, John Isaacs. GOOD JOB, counselor. Hopefully, he'll get his teaching credential back.

    Oh, I see. I don't know much about how the court system works. I thought it was just a one day deal. I should have known better from watching TV. :-)   I do know they offered a plea bargain and he refused that, insisting he's innocent. I am a casual friend of his father, who doesn't even know that I know about this, since he's obviously, and understandably, too ashamed to tell anyone. If I asked him about it I would just add to his pain.

    I hope the young man is innocent, but it doesn't look too good for him. Hopefully, whatever the outcome, justice will be served.

    Mr Mahoney's Jury trial was concluded yesterday afternoon in Dept F5 of the San Bernardino Superior Court, under Judge Dwight Moore. The verdict will not be publised on the court website for a couple days.

    Anybody know what the veridict was?

    This message is from a woman in Mexico who’s husband has kidnapped their four children and possibly taken them to Fontana, CA. She is offering a $10K reward for info on the wherabouts of Keyla Machado Bernal age 10, Joel Machado Bernal, age 9, Valerie Machado Vernal, age 6, and Josue Machado Bernal age  4.  Her husband, Maricela Yaneth Bernal Arreola, age 30, is wanted by the Tijuana police for kidnapping the children. She has reason to believe he took them to Fontana and has probably enrolled them in school there. The children have been gone for ten months. She can be reached in Tijuana by telephone at  664 328 4626 or 664 180 2945. She forgot to give her name in the post – $10,000 reward, folks!!!

    I just looked at that court website and found Clark’s case. They have added another felony count for child porn. Looks like they got his computer hard drive. I know him and couldnt believe he molested his students and would be found innoent. I’m terrible worried now – if he gets on that list his whole life is ruined. If they really have hard core child porn on him, he may be better off to take a plea bargain. Im just sick about this. His case number is FVA1000035. We’ll know soon what happens to him.

    The case is scheduled for jury trial in Dept F5 of San Bernardino County Superior Court at 9:30 AM on Monday 6/20 – unless he cops a plea at the pre-trial hearing on Friday. Hopefully, justice will be done. I am prayng he is innocent of these charges.

    mr mahoney i knew he be arrested for this because hes been eye balling my freind for two years i just think it sick how he can do such a thing i used to be in his third grade class he would like pull his shorts down in front of the hole class it was just disgusting

    I am a childhood friend of Mr Mahoney, I've known him for about 30 years. Clark and I were best friends during his HS years and we have kept in contact all these years. If anyone knows him and his heart and his intentions, I DO !!! I've been in his classroom many times and I've witnessed his behavior with the kids. He is ALWAYS appropriate and lives way above reproach with everyone. I know his family too and I know how Clark was raised, I know their belief system and can strongly attest to Clarks character. I was so close to Clark we could finish each others sentences. I have no doubt Clark would NEVER even come close to what he is being charged with. I too have worked with hundreds of thousands of children for 40 years through church ministries, some of those years Clark was with me. I know how kids tick and how they think and their responses to things. Clark is innocent whether is direct or circumstantial evidence. He has no history of ever hurting anyone, even after teaching for almost 20 years. He has never had one complaint or a raised concern from teacher or student. History always tells a story and there is no trace or thread of concern anywhere with Clarks behavior. I'm convinced those 2 girls had internal issues within their family, which I'm sure will come out in court. This world is really messed up. I for one will go to my grave for Clark and die for him to get his freedom back. The title of this blog is called Broken country, the right side of the left close…that says it all!! The creator of this blog is confused and sick and will split Hell wide open. Clark is NOT a stereotype, the students he taught in school have spoken in this blog and support his innocence too. He WILL go free!!

    Mr. Mahoney was a great teacher not only to me but my little brother too. If people want facts ok well are some. Mr. Mahoney was awarded more than one award 4 having the highest level of readers in his class. When i was in 4th grade i was reading at a 10th grade level. By the time i was in fifth grade i had finished 4 harry potter books in less than 1 year(ALL which MR. Mahoney let me borrow) He helped me read and write in english since i was recently transffered to English only classes. He supported me into joinin band and keep my hopes of playing soccer. I Played soccer my 4 years in highschool n 2 years in the varsity team. Not only did he encourage me and my brother to make the Honor Roll list but he would also encourage kids of all classes to do it. HE did have an after school activity but there was always another adult there and kids would play monopoly or sow. Everyone would hug mr. Mahoney because he always would show he cared. He would call my mother when he was worried over our grades or if we had a great test score on a district test or something important if you want to get more facts I have plenty more. These are just a couple from my personal experience but my friends and I from his class are still together and support him greatly. We hope everything is ok and is doing well..

    Mr Mahoney was my one of my teachers when I was in elementary school and I have nothing but good things to say about him.. I was part of his goosebumps club and he was a really good teacher he care about all his student equally Im sure he is innocent maybe those 2 girls accusing him of such thing need phsycological help maybe they have gone thru some type of trama in their life and they like attention .. MR MAHONEY IS INNOCENT!!!

      Yea you said it right…accused but NOT charged. Time will tell and show his innocence of the accusation against him. It's been almost a year and a half since the incident occurred and no trial. I know the legal system like the back of my hand and if there were any evidence to the accusation this thing would be over. The 2 girls who came forward are liars. Those of you who are not familiar with Clark Mahoney have no clue who he is or what he's like. Those who listen to gossip are just as guilty as those who speak it. Those of you who have never "sinned" cast the first stone…this whole thing is sick and unimaginable, for this countrys legal system to treat Mr Mahoney guilty before proven innocent is backwards and an atrocity. There may be sick bastards in this world, but Clark is NOT one of them. He will be found innocent and given not only his freedom back but also his reputation and his life. We will see who gets the last laugh then…

    Damn haha i had him as a teacher he was cool but i did see him with girls always like hugging them at recess i remember an activity we did i squirted him with a water gun lol but anyways to the the charges i really dont know about this 1 cuz i always had a feeling he was too friendly when i heard about this i was like " damn i knew he was a predator" but its not official yet he could of touched the girl in a friendly way but she took it in a different way but i feel bad for the parents well watever happens justice will take care of it…

    I have known Mr. Mahoney for more than 4 years already. My daughters got an invitation to attend the afterschool program due to them having really good notes. People please open your eyes get the facts before you open your mouth to make an opinion about someone. As I said before children have to have really good notes to get invited to an afterschool program. Mr. Clark Mahoney was the coordinator of the G.A.T.E. "Gifted and Talented Education program" He was the greatest asset for the Date Elementary, He was a great source of education for a lot of children and a source of education and inspiration for a lot of us parents as well. During these years of us knowing him, we have concluded that he is the most responsible and loyal teacher/friend one could have. He goes beyond the definition of trustworthy and his generosity towards his fellow teachers and students is an example for everyone to follow. If the world had more people like Mr. Mahoney, it would definitely be a better place to live. Mr. Mahoney was my two daughters teacher during their third grade. and I saw the greatest improvements on their education. I saw a perfect score of 600 points on one of their state math tests. One of them has a trophy for being the district spelling bee champion and the years after I have seen straight A"s on their repots cards along with principal's Honor Rolls every trimester.
    Parents please open your eyes, get involved with your children's education. go to the campus meet the teachers I don't know the basis of this accusation I just know the inmense negative impact with out of him at date.
    I don't know a lot of details about what he has being accused of. but in my mind I have no doubt that he is innocent. We pray to God for his well being, we trust the justice system and we pray that if he is found innocent, the school district, the courts, the news papers and this web deabtes do what ever it takes to restore his reputation. We believe He is a great man.

      I hope you and other proud parents/students are willing to publicly stand up for Mr. Mahoney in a court of law and to the School District. He needs that kind of support the most. Contact the Fontana Teachers Association to find out who to contact to see how you can help him. God Bless You
