Fireman pyromaniac lighting fires intentionallyfireman pyrosFireman caught in the act
For the last time … There has been no “prolonged drought” here in Southern California! Not anywhere in the state as a matter of FACT!!! In fact the drought, if there was one, was up in the Pacific Northwest. Oregon and Washington to be more precise. California has had record snow and rain for seven off the last ten years.

Last winter was the first dry winter we have had in more than 18 years. If fact the fires were exacerbated by the record rainfall. If you idiots in the media would take just a few minutes off of the picket lines and war protests and do a bit of research perhaps you would understand that.

For you dullards in the media this is how it works. First … it rains. Then vegetation begins to grow. Then you idiots go out and protest if anyone tries to control fires by cutting back the old growth trees and vegetation. Then more rain falls. Then this vegetation gets out of control.

Enter the Department of Forestry, firefighters or any other organization that stands to profit from stopping fires. They go out and light the forest on fire and then make as much as thirty thousand a month in over time. Don’t try to give me any bullshit about how fire fighters don’t light fires either.

Too many firemen have been caught in the last ten years to deny that one. At least the fucking stupid ones. I figure thats why so many of these arson fires go unsolved. Who else but a fire fighter would know how to light a fire and not get caught?

So there you go. Mare rain equals more vegetation equals more fires equals more over time. Got it??? JD

I watch the History Channel …. a lot. I have been watching a promotional commercial for a show called Mega Disasters. This particular episode deals with a “mega drought” in the western United States. In this promo a voice is heard saying ” There has been unprecedented drought in the western United States since 1997.”

God where do I begin … First of all, Here in California we have had unprecedented rainfall and snow pack. In the last ten years, six of those years have seen record rainfall and snow pack. Only one year since 1997 has there been less than normal precipitation. Last winter, The Sierra had 200% of normal snowfall. We here in Southern California have seen flash flood warnings too many times to mention.

So me being me, I sent an email to The History Channel personnel that created this promo … and much to my dismay, they didn’t respond. I accused these cretins of using scare tactics and sensationalism to get ratings. I have since sent three more emails asking that they retract the statement contained in the promo. I sent them factual data proving the promo is wrong and that indeed the western United States has not suffered ten years of drought.

It seems that ratings are more important to The History Channel that factual accuracy. The whole episode is predicated on the myth we like to call global warming. Here is the promotional information I found on The History Channel web site.

Recent warming trends in seawater and air temperature point to a possible mega drought in the next thirty to fifty years. Could we be facing a replay of the Dust Bowl of the 1930s on an even bigger scale? Scientists working with government authorities are highly cognizant of the need to conserve. Is it too late? Jump ahead to a scenario seventy years into the future–a twelve-year drought has left the country unstable and economically depressed. Cities across the west lie abandoned, states fight over limited water supplies and we are now dependant on other nations for food. Society has devolved into a desperate battle for survival as individuals fight over the scarce resource.

Can you believe this bull shit? Better yet, can any of you remember the last time you saw any original programming on The History Channel that wasn’t designed to get bigger ratings? This is all based on “theories” by a bunch of scientists that hate America! And here is The History Channel fabricating a show based on the very same junk science!

Even in the promo statement from The History Channel they use phrases like “Could we be facing a replay of the Dust Bowl of the 1930s on an even bigger scale?” Yes, we certainly could be facing a mega drought. But we can also be facing nuclear war, terrorist attacks, earthquakes, getting run over by a bus ….

In my emails to The History Channel personnel, I asked them if they had ever heard of “desalination.” I don’t know the percentages but a lot of tthe Middle Eastern countries get most or ALL of thier water by removing the salt from sea water. DUH …. Whats my name … dipshit? Idiots … As soon as it occured to those dullards in Washington D.C. that they could get a few votes in the next election, desalination plants would go up faster then you can get a burger at McDonalds!

I have every intention of getting some sort of response from The History Channel. Until then, I will watch like everyone else so’s I can see whats going to kill me … er …. whats going to kill me next. JD

Hysteria in the media …. Here we go again! Now its staph infection. Staph, or Staphylococcus (pronounced: staf-uh-low-kah-kus) has been around longer than hospitals and operating rooms. But the media, using their faster than light tactics off spreading fear are once again trying to make everyone in America hysterical.

Omar Rivera, a seventh-grader at Intermediate School 211, died October 14 from the infection, according to the New York City school superintendent, but investigators were unable to confirm where he contracted the infection. I did a Google News search with the word “staph” and I got many hits, but only eleven stories with a total of 33 kids had contracted a staph infection. Only one died.

Its a tragedy that Omar Rivera died, but it is one person in a country of three hundred million. The way the media makes it sound, you would think that millions have died. But the real tragedy is that most people lap that shit up. My daughters both came home today and said that parents were “hysterical” (that’s the word my 15 year old came up with on her own) about news reports of staph infections in our schools and were wondering what the school was going to do about it.

For the record, not one single case of staph has been reported in our local school district. But it should be noted that in less than one week the media have collectively started a fucking panic across an entire nation. The irony of that statement is I sit sometimes on Sunday morning watching the big heads on all the news stations sitting on their thrones trying to convince the each other that they have little or no influence on the American public.

Bull shit. These assholes know exactly what they are doing. Furthermore, they all read from the same script. You can hear the people that watch CNN, ABC, CBS and NBC reciting almost verbatim what they heard on the news the night before. They almost preach that liberal bullshit like its the gospel truth. Then they hack on anyone that watches Fox News and say that Fox News is conservative!!!

Can you believe that? Fox News, the only network that has regular shows with an EQUAL (used for all you utopian liberals) number of liberals to conservatives, and these IDIOTS call it conservative!!! It eventually becomes painfully obvious that the people that call Fox conserative have never watched watched Fox News, or if the have watched they couldn’t take it because like all liberals, they can’t stand to hear an opposing opinion.

These are the same people that call shows like ABC’s “The View” fair and balanced because like all of the other networks with the exception of Fox News, they have a “token” conservative (Elisabeth Hasselbeck) with a collar and leash around their necks so they can’t really say whats on the mind.

Don’t believe me? I would invite you to read CBS News reporter Bernard Goldberg’s book ” Bias” where he explains just how liberal the major networks are and how they CONSPIRE to make people think the way they want them to think. Like good little liberals. By the way after Goldberg published Bias he was promptly fired from CBS for giving up trade secrets.

I know, I know … What do I do? I read news I don’t watch it. When I read about Tuna having Mercury in it I did the research and found out that the money for the research came from “environmental” concerns that don’t want anyone to eat fish. When I read stories about global warming and they mention a study that proves conclusively that we are all going to burn up, I do the research and find out that the people behind it stand to profit from global warming. Get it? Not if your a liberal …. JD

If a conservative columnist EVER published a piece like this in a major newspaper, they would be drummed out of the business. This was in the October 25′th 2007 Los Angeles Times. Geez … the L.A. Times still can’t figure out why no one will pay for that liberal rag? Idiots.

The president’s warmongering remarks on the Iranian threat suggest he is psychotic. Really.
By Rose Brooks

Forget impeachment.

Liberals, put it behind you. George W. Bush and Dick Cheney shouldn’t be treated like criminals who deserve punishment. They should be treated like psychotics who need treatment.

Because they’ve clearly gone mad. Exhibit A: We’re in the middle of a disastrous war in Iraq, the military and political situation in Afghanistan is steadily worsening, and the administration’s interrogation and detention tactics have inflamed anti-Americanism and fueled extremist movements around the globe. Sane people, confronting such a situation, do their best to tamp down tensions, rebuild shattered alliances, find common ground with hostile parties and give our military a little breathing space. But crazy people? They look around and decide it’s a great time to start another war.

That would be with Iran, and you’d have to be deaf not to hear the war drums. Last week, Bush remarked that “if you’re interested in avoiding World War III . . . you ought to be interested in preventing [Iran] from having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon.” On Sunday, Cheney warned of “the Iranian regime’s efforts to destabilize the Middle East and to gain hegemonic power . . . [we] cannot stand by as a terror-supporting state fulfills its most aggressive ambitions.” On Tuesday, Bush insisted on the need “to defend Europe against the emerging Iranian threat.”

Huh? Iran is now a major threat to Europe? The Iranians are going to launch a nuclear missile (that they don’t yet possess) against Europe (for reasons unknown because, as far as we know, they’re not mad at anyone in Europe)? This is lunacy in action.

Writing in Newsweek on Oct. 20, Fareed Zakaria, a solid centrist and former editor of Foreign Affairs, put it best. Citing Bush’s invocation of “the specter of World War III if Iran gained even the knowledge needed to make a nuclear weapon,” Zakaria concluded that “the American discussion about Iran has lost all connection to reality. . . . Iran has an economy the size of Finland’s. . . . It has not invaded a country since the late 18th century. The United States has a GDP that is 68 times larger and defense expenditures that are 110 times greater. Israel and every Arab country (except Syria and Iraq) are . . . allied against Iran. And yet we are to believe that Tehran is about to overturn the international system and replace it with an Islamo-fascist order? What planet are we on?”

Planet Cheney.

Zakaria may be misinterpreting the president’s remark about World War III though. He saw it as a dangerously loopy Bush prediction about the future behavior of a nuclear Iran — the idea being, presumably, that possessing “the knowledge” to make a nuclear weapon would so empower Iran’s repressive leaders that they’ll giddily rush out and start World War III.

But you could read Bush’s remark as a madman’s threat rather than a madman’s prediction — as a warning to recalcitrant states, from Germany to Russia, that don’t seem to share his crazed obsession with Iran. The message: Fall into line with administration policy toward Iran or you can count on the U.S.A. to try to start World War III on its own. And when it comes to sparking global conflagration, a U.S. attack on Iran might be just the thing. Yee haw!

You’d better believe these guys would do it too. Why not? They have nothing to lose — they’re out of office in 15 months anyway. Après Bush-Cheney, le déluge! (Have fun, Hillary.)

But all this creates a conundrum. What’s a constitutional democracy to do when the president and vice president lose their marbles?

The U.S. is full of ordinary people with serious forms of mental illness — delusional people with violent fantasies who think they’re the president, or who think they get instructions from the CIA through their dental fillings.

The problem with Bush is that he is the president — and he gives instructions to the CIA and military, without having to go through his dental fillings.

Impeachment’s not the solution to psychosis, no matter how flagrant. But despite their impressive foresight in other areas, the framers unaccountably neglected to include an involuntary civil commitment procedure in the Constitution.

Still, don’t lose hope. By enlisting the aid of mental health professionals and the court system, Congress can act to remedy that constitutional oversight. The goal: Get Bush and Cheney committed to an appropriate inpatient facility, where they can get the treatment they so desperately need. In Washington, the appropriate statutory law is already in place: If a “court or jury finds that [a] person is mentally ill and . . . is likely to injure himself or other persons if allowed to remain at liberty, the court may order his hospitalization.”

I’ll even serve on the jury. When it comes to averting World War III, it’s really the least I can do.

I put these two articles together so you can all see for yourselves that Al Gore is just using global warming as a big money grab. In the first article a British court ruled that students that are being forced to watch the movie be advised as to its factual errors. The second article shows that our Government doesn’t seem to want to hear any opposing opinions that don’t go along with the Algore opinion. In case you liberals out there have had your collective head in the sand (or New York Times) Al Gore will be made a billionaire several times over should Congress pass global warming legislation which mandates huge changes with the way the U.S. makes it’s living. JD

A British judge ruled on the eve of Al Gore co-winning the Nobel Peace Prize that students forced to watch “An Inconvenient Truth” must be warned of the film’s factual errors. But would there be any science at all left in Gore’s “truth” if these errors and their progeny were excised?

Minutes of non-science filler dominate the opening sequence — images of the Gore farm, Earth from space, Gore giving his slideshow and the 2000 election controversy. Gore then links Hurricane Katrina with global warming. But the judge ruled that was erroneous, so the Katrina scenes would wind up on the cutting-room floor.

Another 12 minutes of filler go by — images of Gore in his limo, more Earth photos, a Mark Twain quote, and Gore memories — until about the 16:30 minute mark, when, according to the judge, Al Gore erroneously links receding glaciers — specifically Mt. Kilimanjaro — with global warming.

The Mt. Kilimanjaro error commences an almost 10-minute stretch of problematic footage, the bulk of which contains Gore’s presentation of the crucial issue in the global warming controversy — whether increasing levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide drive global temperatures higher. As the judge ruled that the Antarctic ice core data presented in the film “do not establish what Mr. Gore asserts,” this inconvenient untruth also needs to go. [Note to readers: A video debate between Al Gore and climatologists on this point produced by me can be viewed by clicking here.]

After still more filler footage about Winston Churchill, the 2000 election, and rising insurance claims from natural disasters, Gore spends about 35 seconds on how the drying of Lake Chad is due to global warming. The judge ruled that this claim wasn’t supported by the scientific evidence.

More filler leads to a 30-second clip about how global warming is causing polar bears to drown because they have to swim greater distances to find sea ice on which to rest. The judge ruled however, that the polar bears in question had actually drowned because of a particularly violent storm.

On the heels of that error, Gore launches into a 3-minute “explanation” of how global warming will shut down the Gulf Stream and send Europe into an ice age. The judge ruled that this was an impossibility.

Two minutes of ominous footage — casting Presidents Reagan and George H.W. Bush, and Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) in a creepy light and expressing Gore’s frustration with getting his alarmist message out — precede a more-than-9-minute stretch that would need to be cut.

In this lengthy footage, Gore again tries to link global warming with discrete events including coral reef bleaching, the melting of Greenland, catastrophic sea level rise, Antarctic melting and more. But like Hurricane Katrina, these events also shouldn’t be linked with global warming.

Based on the judge’s ruling, the footage that ought to be excised adds up to about 25 minutes or so out of the 98-minute film. What’s left is largely Gore personal drama and cinematic fluff that has nothing to do with the science of climate change.

It should also be pointed out that Gore makes other notable factual misstatements in the film that don’t help his or his film’s credibility.

He says in the film that polio has been “cured,” implying that we can cure “global warming.” While a preventative polio vaccine does exist, there is no “cure” for polio.

Gore attempts to smear his critics by likening them to the tobacco industry. In spotlighting a magazine advertisement proclaiming that “more doctors smoke Camel than any other brand,” he states that the ad was published after the Surgeon General’s 1964 report on smoking and lung cancer. But the ad is actually from 1947 — 17 years before the report.

Gore also says in the film that 2005 is the hottest year on record. But NASA data actually show that 1934 was the hottest year on record in the U.S. — 2005 is not even in the top 10.

Perhaps worse than the film’s errors is their origin. The BBC reported that Gore knew the film presented incorrect information but took no corrective steps because he didn’t want to spotlight any uncertainties in the scientific data that may fuel opponents of global warming alarmism.

“An Inconvenient Truth” grossed about $50 million at the box office and millions more in DVD and book sales. Gore charges as much as $175,000 for an in-person presentation of his slide show that forms the basis for the film.

Considering that a key 25 percent of “An Inconvenient Truth” is not true — and perhaps intentionally so — it seems only fair that Gore offer a refund to moviegoers, DVD/book purchasers and speaking sponsors. Where are the class action lawyers when you need them?

Here is the second article

Sen. Gregg says global warming legislation deserves consideration

CONCORD, N.H. –Republican Sen. Judd Gregg says a new Senate bill to combat global warming “deserves serious consideration,” even though one of the bill’s sponsors says it goes beyond President Bush’s proposals on global warming.

Leading environmentalists in New Hampshire also support the legislation, which has bipartisan support in Congress. Sens. Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn., and John Warner, R-Va., introduced the bill this week.

Supporters say it would reduce greenhouse gases from the largest sources by 15 percent by 2020 and 75 percent by 2050. The bill would establish a greenhouse gas emissions cap that covers electric utilities, manufacturing sources and transportation. It also contains provisions for energy efficiency standards for appliances and buildings. Fully implemented, supporters say the bill has the potential to cut greenhouse gas emissions by more than half by mid-century.

While not fully signing on to the plan, Gregg noted that he has supported other legislation that would establish a market-based, cap-and-trade system to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, similar to the system proposed in the “America’s Climate Security Act of 2007,” Lieberman and Warner’s bill.

“America’s Climate Security Act of 2007 deserves serious consideration, and I look forward to working with my Senate colleagues on passing climate change legislation during this Congress,” Gregg said in a statement.

“It is critical that we work together in a bipartisan manner and adopt climate change legislation that will ensure that future generations don’t suffer the harmful consequences of global warming,” he said.

Bush has opposed mandatory limits on greenhouse gases, saying such regulations would stifle economic growth. But Warner said voluntary actions will not achieve the necessary goals.

Besides Warner, Republican Sens. Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina, Norm Coleman of Minnesota and Susan Collins of Maine are co-sponsors, as is Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa.

The legislation’s broad supports marks a shift in Congress, said Jan Pendlebury, director of the state chapter of the National Environmental Trust.

“It shows Congress is serious about enacting global warming legislation,” Pendlebury said. “New Hampshire Senators Gregg and Sununu should do their part. The first step is to finish the energy bill and the next step is to pass comprehensive climate legislation like that introduced (Thursday),” she said.

Sen. Sununu’s office did not respond immediately to requests for comment on the legislation.

Compact florescent lights
Compact florescent light bulbs or CFL’s as they are called suck! They are not bright enough and I have not EVER had one last more than 6 months. We started using CFL’ about two years ago and didn’t notice any difference in our electric bill. What we did notice is that the average life span of these rather expensive products seems to be about 6 months. That’s far shorter than the “ten years” claims I read on the packages and hear all over the internet.

So being an electrician, I decided to take one of these CFL’s apart and see what made it tick … or light up. It turns out that they burn up the micro transformer used to light the inert gas contained in the bulb. This tiny circuit appears to simply overheat. The one I’m looking at contains a 210 milliamp transformer. I took my trusty volt meter and put the thing in a socket and guess what? No output power!!!

The CFL works like this. 120 volts of power is driven by electromotive force into the transformer. The transformer steps the 120 input voltage down to 210 milliamps. When you turn on one of these bulbs, the 210 milliamp output from the transformer ignites the inert gas contained in the bulb itself. The circuit then puts out a steady output power of 13 watts needed to keep the gas ignited. When input power is taken away, the gas goes out and the light goes off.

But there is a problem with this circuit. First, what happens to the excess energy? I’ll tell you what happens. Its burned off as heat. So you have heat from the power source, heat from the bulb and heat from the transformer itself and they all combine to cause a heating problem at the base of the bulb. This in turn fries the transformer circuit. I have seen several of the bulbs we have replaced with brown burn marks on the side of the transformer housing.

Until they can better manage the way these things dissipate heat, they are destine to fail. This isn’t a problem with an incandescent bulb. Incandencent bulbs use 120 volt alternating current and manage it like a controlled shoort circuit. They use tungsten for an element and the electricity shorts across the element and creates light. The bulb gets hot because the electricity is being dissipated as heat. The brightness of the bulb is dependent on the thickness of the element.

So for my money, I’ll stick with the old tried and true method of lighting my house. Incandescent bulbs. They are cheaper and last far longer than compact florescence. One more thing. CFA’s contain a small amount of mercury. To all of the environmental whackos out there that keep telling us to use CFL’s, you should be ashamed of yourselves. Telling us to use a mercury laden product …. LOL JD

BEIJING, Oct. 16 — Chinese officials warned the United States not to honor the Dalai Lama, saying a planned award ceremony for the Tibetan spiritual leader would have “an extremely serious impact” on relations between the countries.

Tibet’s Communist Party boss, Zhang Qingli, at the Communist Party’s 17th National Congress in Beijing today.

Speaking at a Foreign Ministry briefing and on the sidelines of the Communist Party’s ongoing 17th National Congress, the officials condemned the Dalai Lama as a resolute separatist and said foreign leaders must stop encouraging his “splittist” mission.

“Such a person who basely splits his motherland and doesn’t even love his motherland has been welcomed by some countries and has even been receiving this or that award,” Tibet’s Communist Party boss, Zhang Qingli, told reporters during the congress.

“We are furious,” Mr. Zhang said. “If the Dalai Lama can receive such an award, there must be no justice or good people in the world.”

The Dalai Lama, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has lived in exile since the Chinese army crushed an uprising in his homeland in 1959 and is revered as the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists. He is scheduled to receive the Congressional Gold Medal on Wednesday after President Bush plays host to him at the White House today.

The White House today emphasized that the Dalai Lama’s visit was that of “a spiritual, not a political, leader,” and of a man whose movement was aimed at freedom of worship, not Tibetan independence.

“We would hope that Chinese leaders would get to know the Dalai Lama as we have gotten to know him: as a great spiritual leader,” said an administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity, adding that the White House meeting would be at Mr. Bush’s residence, not in the Oval Office, “which is appropriate and befits the Dalai Lama’s role as a spiritual, not political leader.”

The official also said that when Mr. Bush speaks tomorrow at the Congressional gold medal ceremony, “he will reiterate our views that the Dalai Lama is a great spiritual leader who leads a movement aimed not at independence from China but for the rights of the Tibetan people to worship freely and protect their lands.”

The visit comes as the United States has been either seeking or relying on Chinese cooperation on an array of difficult issues: the North Korean and Iranian nuclear programs, the mass killings in Darfur and the recent crackdown on protesters in Myanmar.

China has pressed the United States to cancel the award event for months. Foreign Ministry Spokesman Liu Jianchao said today that Beijing was “strong dissatisfied” and warned of an “extremely serious impact” if the events are held as scheduled. But he did not say what steps China planned to take.

This week, Beijing pulled out of a meeting at which leading world powers are to discuss Iran’s nuclear program. Chinese officials cited “technical reasons” for not participating, but they left the clear impression that they might downgrade support for international efforts to stop Iran’s nuclear program if foreign powers interfere in China’s internal affairs.

China also recently canceled its annual human rights dialogue with Germany to protest Chancellor Angela Merkel’s September meeting with the Dalai Lama.

But Beijing often uses strong language when warning other countries about interfering in its internal affairs without taking strong action. Giving an award to the Dalai Lama is highly unlikely to seriously disrupt relations with the United States, which has often sought to protect Chinese dissidents and has maintained close ties to Taiwan, which China considers a renegade province.

Both Washington and Beijing say relations between the countries have been warm, especially after they worked together to bring about an agreement to end North Korea’s nuclear program.

In recent months, China has stepped up its attacks on the Dalai Lama even though Chinese officials and envoys from the Tibetan leader have engaged in a on-and-off dialogue over terms of reconciliation.

While Beijing says it is willing to allow the Dalai Lama to return to China if he promises to respect Chinese sovereignty over Tibet, they have dismissed his efforts to work for a “middle way” that gives Tibet a higher measure of autonomy under continued Chinese rule.

Tibet’s governor, Qiangba Puncog, said at the party congress that the dialogue had gone poorly.

“He should resolutely abandon his Tibetan independence stance and activities,” Mr. Qiangba Puncog said. “But in my opinion, some of those activities are actually escalating and setting a lot of obstacles for further progress.”

Ethnic tensions have risen in Tibet in recent months, prompting tough police action.

Rights groups said a group of Tibetan boys were detained in the northwestern province of Gansu last month after they were accused of scribbling slogans on walls calling for the Dalai Lama’s return.

Four of the boys, all 15 years old, were still in detention. Police officers had used electric prods on them and were demanding payment for their release, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch say.

Yet another fine example of so called “black leaders” being nothing more than racists. JD

New developments in a Palmdale school lunchroom melee that was caught on tape.

Eyewitness News asked Latrisha Majors, Pleajhia Mervin’s mother, for permission to speak with the family doctor. Majors gave that permission. The doctor revealed that the student, who claimed her wrist was broken, was not injured.

The 16-year-old claimed her wrist was broken when guards were called to the lunchroom at Pete Knight High School last month.

Now her doctor says that she was not injured. That comes as activists demand charges against the students and parents arrested in the melee be dropped.

When Pleajhia Mervin claimed security at Pete Knight High School fractured her wrist, it stirred protests by civil rights activists demanding justice. With the permission of Mervin’s mother, I spoke to her doctor by phone, and he told me Thursday after treating her there is no indication that her wrist was fractured. And he says medically it is listed as normal.

About 35 protestors gathered outside the Antelope Valley Courthouse in Palmdale on Thursday morning. They demanded no charges be filed against Palmdale High School student Pleajhia Mervin, her mother Latrisha Majors, and two other students involved in the much-publicized videotaped melee at Pete Knight High School several weeks ago.

Each were booked for battery on the heels of the tension in which Pleajhia Mervin was detained by school security after apparently getting into an altercation with authorities for failing to clean up the mess from a birthday cake she dropped in the lunchroom.

Mervin claims her wrist was broken by security. Officials with the district attorney’s office say no charges have been officially filed. The incident is under investigation.

Civil rights leaders from as far away as Atlanta joined Thursday morning’s protest.

“We’re not going to sit … and let this type of discriminatory practices and a act of violence to be embarked upon upon our young people,” Charles Steele, of the Southern Christian Leadership Conf., said.

Pleajhia Mervin’s arm remains in a sling, supporting the wrist she and her mother claim was fractured during the videotaped chaos.

I spoke with her doctor, Albert Amoani, an emergency room physician at Lancaster Community Hospital. He says after treating her there is no medical indication of any injury to her wrist. He says it’s normal.

He says everything else that may have been injured, including her head and shoulder, checked out as normal. Her mother maintains otherwise.

“They put the cast on her, they gave her the sling, they gave her the pain medication. It’s not only her wrist. Her shoulder is bruised, her side is bruised, her back is bruised. You know it wasn’t just her arm that was hurting her,” Latrisha Majors said.

A source in the sheriff’s department says when Pleajhia Mervin was taken into custody on the heels of the incident, she was asked if she was injured or in pain. And he says she replied no, she was not.

The doctor says even though there is no medical indication that Pleajhia Mervin’s wrist is fractured, he says he decided to go ahead and put it in a sling because she said it hurt.

Man accused of illegal animal slaughtering
By Rod Leveque, Staff Writer

CHINO – Prosecutors have charged a Chino man with running an illegal animal slaughterhouse in his backyard.

State agriculture officials say they found buckets of animal guts, a dead sheep and animal pelts near Jose Gallegos’ shed when they inspected his home last year.

The charge, a misdemeanor violation of the state Food and Agricultural Code, could land Gallegos in jail for up to a year and cost him more than $1,000 in fines.

“It simply isn’t appropriate to slaughter animals for human consumption in one’s backyard without the correct permits or approval from the governing agencies,” said Deputy District Attorney Jeremy Carrasco, who filed the case.

Gallegos could not be reached for comment.

Investigators from the Department of Food and Agriculture say they discovered the operation on Dec. 29 when a sign advertising sheep and goats for sale led an inspector to Gallegos’ home in the 3500 block of Riverside Drive.

While there, the investigator saw animal guts, the carcass, bloody sheep skins, knives on a table and meat parts on the floor, prosecutors say.

Carrasco said it appears Gallegos was slaughtering the animals for himself and friends.

“I have no indication he was selling them to stores,” Carrasco said.

A spokesman for the Department of Food and Agriculture did not return a call seeking comment Friday afternoon.

Brian Sampson, supervisor at the Inland Valley Humane Society, said small backyard slaughterhouses have traditionally been common in the areas around the agricultural preserves.

The operations are becoming rarer, though, as the dairy land of Chino and Ontario disappears to development.

“It’s not so common now as it was 10 years ago,” he said. “Back then, especially coming close to holidays, we’d get a lot of calls for that sort of thing.”

Gallegos is scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 29 in Chino Superior Court.
